I just had the same thing happen on my perkins 3 cyl.I went to my local tractor dealer, and got a new gasket and two 0 rings. The lid comes off, but be careful to see where internal parts connect. Don't be in a hurry. I think the important part is the psition of a little spring. The spring has several holes it can be attached to. The gasket has tabes to hold it inplace. If you dont have a perkins diesel just take your time.
