I used the differential from an old golf cart to lift the hammer on a post driver I fabricated. I adapted the drive shaft to my pto. Then I used an empty rim on one axle for the lift cable and rigged a disc brake on the other. When I want to raise the hammer (about 400 lbs) I apply the brake to the one and the other then has power. To drop it I release the brake and the hammer falls. The pto is always turning. Is this what you have in mind?
