I had the same problem on my M. I however was lucky and didn't trouble shoot it as much as you did. Those plugs ran okay when I started it, but about an hr. later it started misfiring and running on at shut off. When problems pop up I try to associate it with what have I changed lately. The Champion D 21 is the best plug in an M. Sometimes I think we over think these situations fearing for the worst. I do it and have to always tell myself to check the simple stuff again.
