I admire your spunk though!

I guess I got some people torqued up with the jab about salaries, but I think that 99% of all the teachers are doing a good job and are in the profession because they want to make a difference, not get rich. There are a few bad apples in every bushel, who hasn't worked with someone who won't pull their weight? In the NH baler factory years ago, the guys on the line would tell the new guy, you do it right and you do it well, or we'll send you down the line with the baler.

The point I was trying to make with the post was that a lot of parents look at school as a place to park their kids during the day, so they can run them around at night.

Amen to all those who remember what our parents taught us, and what we try to pass on to our kids. It's an uphill battle though, when as you see above, sports, etc consume big $$$, and nobody gripes about their taxes for that. (Ok some of us do...)

It doesn't help when the politicians convince everybody that the teachers are the great evil, and that we need to "pay for performance". That just means they get to bulk up somebodies wallet for all the "testing". Remember, if those "children are left behind", then the government get to privatize the school. Then, there is no local representation on how our tax $ get spent.

Teachers - keep up the good work! I'm glad for what you did for me, and for my children. Everybody on the forum - go to your school board meetings and start asking for answers there. That's why we live in a democracy, let's show our kids what that means.......

Today's Featured Article - New Hitches For Your Old Tractor - by Chris Pratt. For this article, we are going to make the irrational and unlikely assumption that you purchased an older tractor that is in tip top shape and needs no immediate repairs other than an oil change and a good bath. To the newcomer planning to restore the machine, this means you have everything you need for the moment (something to sit in the shop and just look at for awhile while you read the books). To the newcomer that wants to get out and use the machine for field work, you may have already hit a major roadblock. That is the dreaded "proprietary hitch". With the exception of the ...
