Mike, does your tractor have a 3-position light/generator control switch on the dash? Gene was right, the field circuit from a 3rd brush generator goes to ground either through a 3-ohm resistor (position 1, controlled charge) or directly to ground (position 2, full charge or position 3, full charge with the fused light circuit on). The 3rd brush generators can also be adjusted for basic output at the generator itself by moving the location of the 3rd (middle) brush.
