I have 3 560's. Two of the three had blown engines and the owner lied to me about the third.
It was supposed to have been a working tractor. It had a too tired engine too. After a bit of work (tearing down, etc.) and examination we have come to the conclusion that the 560 was a good tractor when new, however, a number of them were ill cared for and if the power steering unit was allowed to leak and begin to plug the radiator the perkins with only 3 main bearing was not strong enough for the impending abuse and a number of them blew.
It appears,the rest of the tractors with the exception of the 3-pt. hydraulics, which were too light,were very strong and durable. I hope to replace the perkins with a 4 cyl. cummins when time permits. Hope to have a good runner. Don't know much about the 540, but have one of each of the rest of the square noses. Have one of the 550 diesels with all the goodies. Too bad the Cockshutts were not allowed to live. They had one of the best on the market.
