One way to tell the difference is does the coil wire in the center of the cap go to a round coil, the distributor is also round. A mag has a square coil mounted to the top of it . The distributor is pointing down the Mag is pointing toward front of tractor. I can understand how the younger generation don't know what a Mag looks like ,as when I was young I can't recall seeing a tractor with a Distributor on it.
