The new powerstroke is a 6 liter, not a 6 cylinder, and rumor here in NY is that it will outpull and outmileage both GM and Dodge- but suffers terribly from new model mechanicals. (there ain't been enough built to sort out all the problems.) All the latest diesel pickups are good reliable powerplants making excellent torque (which does the work- not the HP) with respectable mileage. My response is this- How much power do you guys really need? If you really want to pull something, go get a used FL 70 or small S series. These are real trucks, can be had under CDL, pull strongly, and are obtainable used under 20,000 dollars where a new pickup is 40,000 dollars plus. You all say these newer diesels need more power- go back to the days of the aspirated 6.9L in the Ford- lots of torque but no HP. Lots of mileage but no HP. If you are looking for max torque and max HP AND 20 miles per gallon, it ain't gonna happen in a showroom stock unit. It takes fuel to get 'er done.
