Newkirk Orchard Offset disc

Recently drug home a very experienced Newkirk made in Anaheim, California.
Does anyone know where the chain which is fastened to the antique lifting mechanism is designed to be fastened? Right now it is fastened to a large lever which extends out in front of the disc. The chain length is about 2 feet and there is nothing at the other end of the chain. The unit has 7 blades wide which are spaced 9" apart. The lifting device raises the unit a few inches for transport and I would like to place a hydraulic cylinder on the unit to do the work if I can't find out where the chain is supposed to be fastened for raising.
