I feel like I'm living on a different planet after reading some of the responses you received in regard to fuel mileage. I know four people locally (Central New York State) that have 4WD pickups with the Cummins 5.9. The best mileage reported by any to them - empty - was 21 on a flat highway. Usual highway driving with uphill and downhill grades seems to float around 17-19 m.p.g. Friend of mine just took his year old Cummins powered pickup truck to Texas and back, and averaged 17.5 m.p.g.
