Gas- caused by the ignition coil or wires, alternator, etc. Diesel- shouldn't be too noisy, maybe alternator. Run the "+" wire direct to the battery for your radio and ground close by. Noise filters for car radios will help. If your Neutral switch was bad then moving the wires wouldn't help, it wouldn't start until you by-passed the switch.
