Use regular primary wire. Most electric gas gauges are labelled: "I" ... connects to switched 12 Volts from the ignition switch. "S" ... connects to sender in gas tank. Some have a ground terminal, and some are grounded by the metal dash panel. In either case, the gauge needs a good, clean ground to operate properly, and the sender needs to be grounded, also. This requires clean sender and tank mounting screw(s), and in some applications, a ground wire from the sender to the machine chassis.
