Must have been the same guy that put the filter on my '73 Charger! I did the same thing, tore the filter in half with a screwdriver, tore the rest of the filter off till I got down to the plate, and then used a chisel to rotate the plate to loosen it! Took 2 hours! But the absolute worst was a Chevy Citation that had a 4 cylinder in it. I was working at a garage in Champaign 20 years ago. The filter is located on the "firewall" side of the engine, above the catalytic converter (which is as hot as a firecracker), and behind every other thing imaginable. You can't even see the filter... only feel the outer edge of the can! When you finally get it loose... you get a face full of hot oil, hot oil running down your arm, hot oil on the hot converter and exhaust system. What a dang mess!
