I bought a Kubota B275(21HP) in 2000 after looking at it and the JD's. It was about $1500 cheaper and came with mid PTO standard. It has performed flawlessly ever since. Be sure to get the hydrostat drive and 4x4. The hydro will work circles around a stick shift and the 4x4 turns it from a lawn mower into a real tractor and will amaze you at what it can do. I did not like the Yanmars offered since all were gray market tractors and hydrostat were not available. The tires on them were ag type with tread about 4" deep. You can inagine what that would do to a yard after a little shower. Also, no ROPS protection on gray market tractors. That may not sound like a big deal but I lost a good friend in a flipover with no ROPS. It matters to me now...

Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution. And, if you are like me, your tractor is under cover, but it sits outside. So with every temperature change, the humidity in the air collects in the fuel tank, in the form of water.
