That may depend on where you live. Here in the NW it's so wet that things with windings should be dried well before flipping the switch. I restarted an old Cinn. mill after sitting for 13 years inside a good shop and as luck(?) would have it had to do some repair to the motor before running. The shop said the thing was so damp inside the windings it'd smoked for sure.

We had a mixed farm consisting of grain and dairy all done with old machinery and by hand.
