problem solved: there's no more oil on my hood

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to those who responded to my query about the oil on my JD R's hood. I've only recently become acquainted with diesels on the farm so I hadn't even entertained the idea that the oil could have been a biproduct of the tractor running at idle for an extended period of time. Turns out that this was the case. A little time at full throttle and the R was chuggin with no more exhaust stack slobbering. I appreciate the replies. I'm very greatful to not have to replace the rings. Learn somethin new everyday I guess. God bless. --old fashioned farmer
