986 International/steep grades

Have little tractor skills--attempting to use 986 to launch boats on a steep grade. Tractor seems to be in good working order but when going down a steep grade it seems to slow down & change "tone".
Conscerned---am going down 25%grade--w/tractor only. On level ground tractor is very useable for grading just feels strange on a grade & I do not know if this is normal. Anyone w/some hours on this model would be nice to talk with. Most people use these on fairly level ground, I have a lot of grade w/a deep lake @ the end.
