Was the exhaust stack always covered? Is there any other way that water could get into the engine through the exhaust system? If so, you'll probably need to pull the cylinder head and take a closer look. Another thing to check is that the valves all move freely; pull the rocker arm cover and tap the rocker arms with wooden or rubber mallet. If a valve is stuck and the rest of the engine isn't, you'll bend the pushrod by trying to crank the engine.

If the piston rings are stuck to the cylinder wall because a significant amount of water got in, you're probably going to have to pull the head and drive the pistons out. Check back with us; do't go pounding on the center (weakest part) of a piston.
