Are you sure you put the oil in the right hole? I have heard of people draining one system and then filling another, really ruins your day.
Also did the manual say if the 12 1/2 qts included the filter? It will require more oil. I have a much bigger tractor but when I change the oil I just start pouring oil until it comes out. Manual says 29 qts but it always takes more.
