The "G" was a low compression all-fuel engine that was designed to run on cheap refinery left overs, not expensive gasoline. With four to one compression , what do you expect?
Any 70 gas that burned 7 gallons per hour had both a plugged aircleaner and the main plus idle jets set full rich. Our 70 gas is hard pressed to burn 4 gallons an hour.
The 70 diesel would barely burn 2 gallons per hour. It's fuel efficiency still beats many new tractors.
The 520/620/720 gas tractors all hold records or near records for gasoline tractor fuel efficiency tested at Nebraska.
