I have a 1980 JD 950 bought in '93 for $7300 with 8' blade, front-end loader (Model 75) and 5' finsh mower. That 3 cyl. Yanmar diesel has been a great engine. Good fuel consumption and lots of low end torque for a small tractor.

One item to consider is if your place is hilly, you may want to consider a 4WD. My 2WD can get stuck, or at least slowed down, pretty easily in certain places. Otherwise, its a great tractor.

My manual covers the 850 as well as the 950, so they are pretty similar.
