Bill, how many trees / rows are you doing? I had 15 acres of Douglas Fir / Nobel and Frasers. We found it worked well to apply by hand. The fertilizer gets where it is supposed to go. The root zone is is small on young trees and there is a lot of empty space in a 5 X 5 or 6 X 4 planting. I have a neighbor who fertilizes 10 acres of blueberries this way also - although he drives his tractor between the rows with a fertilizer bucket between his legs. If you still want a spreader to pull behind the tractor, look for a row cultivator / side dresser. The side dresser runs off a wheel and dribbles out the fertilizer through a tube. With a little modification, I'm sure you can make it work. Grant
