No Wax needed in my experience. With stone drive I think it best to start the year pulling the blade forward. This is less likely to dig in to gravel, and should create a snow base. After your base is hard and frozen, you can go either way. I usually run in reverse because you dont drive over the snow first, and I can push it into big piles that way. In deep snow, you definately have to go in revers since it will be hard driving through the deep stuff - especially turning.

Tip - try to turn your whole body sideways on the seat - it takes 'some' of the strain off the neck!
