According to the Encyclopedia of American Farm Tractors, the Charter Gas Engine Company built a gasoline engine tractor in 1889. They used a stationary gasoline engine on a steam traction engine chassis. I think this was an experimental tractor, with only a few built, as with the Froelich and Case Patterson. I believe Hart-Parr always claimed to have the first production tractor. I don't know when the first tractors were built in Europe, however. Glenn
