If you can get the serial number off of the tractor, you can identify the tractor. For information on serial number location, format, and production year click here.

Occasionally it is impossible to clearly read the serial number. It is still very possible to identify the series and/or model of the vintage Ford tractor. You may view simple illustrations of the older Ford tractors (1952-1963) by clicking here. In addition, there are several photographs posted on the same Web site. Clicking here will take you to this page of the Web site.

If you do not want to go through all of this clicking around, I can give you a really quick, basic lesson on the early Ford tractor serial number format. Again, these are simply the basics-

-all 9N and 2N Ford tractor serial numbers begin with the designation "9N." The 9N and 2N Ford tractor was produced from 1939 to 1947. The 9N Ford was introduced in 1939, hence the designation 9N ("9" signifying the last number in the introductory year, 1939). The 2N Ford was introduced in 1942.

-all 8N Ford tractor serial numbers begin with the designation "8N." The 8N Ford tractor was introduced in 1948.

-all 1953 Golden Jubilee and 1954 NAA Ford tractor serial numbers begin with the designation "NAA." Just to confuse the matter, all Golden Jubilee Ford tractors are model NAA, but not all model NAA Ford tractors are Golden Jubilees.

-on Ford tractors produced from 1955 to 1964 (or there abouts), the serial number format contains the model designation before the sequential production number. If your serial number should read "640 11521" you have a series 600, model641 Ford tractor produced in 1955.

If you think that this tractor is older than the N-series of Ford tractors, you have a Fordson. Fordson serial numbers may be viewed by clicking here.

Today's Featured Article - Ford Part Number Trivia - by Forum Participants. "Replaced by" means the part was superseded. All of my part books date back to 1964 and New Holland have changed some part numbers. They usually put the old Ford part number on the package. I was suppressed when I looked up the part number of the auxiliary drive shaft because for some reason the part number went through a radical change and it lost its "Basic Part Number". Ford part numbers follow the following rules. Most part numbers are in three parts. The middle part is called the ... [Read Article]
