Ryan, As the other good old boys said, the kind of problems you experience are often caused by the most important wire in that system which is the ground wire. Be sure and run a good independent ground wire through that plug and connector which is connected to the trucks frame and the trailers frame and bonded with no rust or paint underneath it. You can not rely on the ball hitch itself properly connecting the two frames toghether. Another caution, here in Indiana one reputable trailer mfgr. wires the trailers equipped with 6 pole horse trailer plugs WRONG. He uses the center auxiliary connector wire, which is supposed to be for auxiliary 12 volts to run the trailer dome lights or charge its battery, as the electric brake circuit. When we buy the 7 to 6 adpaters we have to buy them code or for that guys trailers. So, be sure both plugs are code and you have good grounds to each frame connected through that plug in addition to the ball and hitch ground. John T in Indiana
