Allan, before you make a final payment, if and when the work is completed, MAKE SURE that you go to the suppliers and confirm that there is no lien against the materials he used on your property. You might want to check at the courthouse too. This sounds like the kind of guy that would charge materials to your job site address, then not pay. There are jerks in every profession, this is just one in his.
