TA Eliminator on 806

I am in the last steps in putting the speed transmission together after installing a TA eliminator kit. The only part that has me confused is the new gear in the kit. The instructions seem to want to install it on the countershaft, being driven by the origional constant mesh (direct drive) gear reinstalled on the new shaft from the kit. If I have this right then the old gear drives the new one instead of the origional. Isn't mixing new & old gears a no no ?? If anyone has done this before I would appreciate your input.
