Transmission reservoir

I have a1978 Kubota lt245 dt. Im un able to get the fluid out of the transmission to the power steering pump .The reservoir has the proper amount of fluid but very litle fluid comes out of the opening in the tranny which feeds the inlet side of the pump . any suggestions would truly be appreciated .Is there a screen in the transmission reservoir some where?Thanks in advance to who ever can help me.
