It's not fair to compare apples to oranges! We used to have a 656 gas and we now have a 4040 JD, same engine as a 4020. Each tractor is an excellent machine, doing what they were designed for. The 656, regardless of engine, has a lighter rear end and weighs about a ton less than the 4020. I have witnessed people hooking a chain between 2 tractors with near disasterous results! A tractor's pulling potential is best explored on a pulling track. A 656 would pull in the 7000# stock class, and the 4020 should be in the 9000# class. I finished this season in the WSTPA at West Salem, Ohio in 2nd place with my OLIVER 1600 gas weighed down to 9000#! First place went to a JD4010, rated at 25 more horsepower than I have. Don
