The most common cause I have seen of this is a bad ignition switch. It has happened to me a few times. The Lucas switch will do that. The clue here is that it only does this in neutral, and not in gear. Also remember that after it starts, it will keep the starter engaged, until you put the tractor in gear, and will reengage the starter when the lever with the neutral safety switch is again placed in neutral. To check this, take a multimeter, remove the switch, and check it for continuity through it's various functions. One lead on the power input terminal, and then go through the the various terminals and key positions. You should find definite positions to the switch if it is good. I bet that you will not. Although it is always good to check all the wires while you are at it. The switch is readily available from NH. Good luck.
