Perhaps your mother is worried that it will become a money pit and will cost you more than it's worth,and I can see that end of it, or maybe that you will lose interest and it will grow up in weeds,that happens too( around here as a matter of fact)A mothers job is to look out for you, and be protective. She doesn't want to see you spend all your money and then even more on something that isn;t worth it..Tractors do hold value, that's a plus! and also they can have hidden problems that co$t...If you want to work on it, buy one that's needing work , get a manual, ask questions...Can you use your Grandfather's tools and shop? Will he help you ? Is he a mechanical whiz? Does he have the time? Maybe you can spend more money and buy one that runs good...and save alot of worry and expense and time that your project is in pieces on the floor, my wife doesn't like us to buy plastic models because of those heartbreaks, instead she likes bigger projects like tractors and cars, still we use caution because ours are all in pieces everywhere( sometimes in the kitchen).Ok, remember you always can sell the thing when ( if) you ever get tired of it to someone else just like you....footnote ... when i was younger than you,i wanted a Silver King, had the money and my Dad got me to the auction too late(on purpose) and it was sold....I hold that against him too this day,yes parents make mistakes too...
