Indy is right. Dynos do give a figure of output hp, but it is a calculated figure, not a measured figure. Dyno's measure torque and speed, and from that can calculate HP, and torque rise. You are correct though, that there are shaft dynos, which most of us are familiar with, as well as chassis dynos. Torque can be measured in ft-lb's or in-lb's. The latter simply being 12 times the value of the former. Hp=(torque*RPM)/constant. The constant when using ft-lb is 5252, and the constant when using in-lb is 63025. Note that it is 12 times that of 5252. Those are the figures I was taught anyway. Rod
