They work good. Excellant for cultivators and other equip. You might have problems with pto driven equip due to shaft legnth, and on mowers from the top link. Yes, they do increase the load due to it being further back. They can also help you lift an impliment higher or lower(some hitches have a choice of 2 hitching pts. for the 3 pt lower arms) Depending on your impliments, you usually don't have to do much to retofit. The only real problem is if your imp. is a smaller catagory than your hitch. The most common is a cat 2 hitch. Cat 1 is for smaller tractors, and cat 0 on garden tractors.

If your impliment has studs that you slide the arm on and put in the clip (like most mowers), you can get a special bushing that slides over and a roll pin is driven into the pin hole to hold it. If your impliment uses pins you can get bushings to make it fit, some impliments come with 2 sets of pins, one for quick hitch and one for regular.
