Bruce, when this happens to me, I clean everything firstr, then replace dist cap, rotor, points, condensor, plug wires, coil wires, coil, spark plugs, then set all to specs, set timing, check advance. Be sure to lubricate the advance mechanism inside the distributor. Always works. Never know what was wrong and don't really care. Sometimes trying to save a nickel or new part is just not worth it. Your old tractor probably needs all those parts anyway. good luck.
