I have discovered I have an arthritis problem but don't want to give up my 'hobby farming' (mostly hay - round and square, very little row crop) so I will need to solve a couple of problems with using my current no power steering and standard transmission tractors. What tractors are like a later model ford 4000 diesel with select-o-speed and power steering that are readily available and have parts available? The 4000 series would give me the 50+ horsepower I need, the power steering should keep the elbows from swelling up, and the inching pedel is very easy on the knees so they don't swell up (I have an 871D without power steering and the tranny is starting to leak oil from the front seal - easy to sink a few thousand into a thousand dollar tractor with this one). As usual I don't have a fortune to sink into this so brand new John Deere's are probably out of the question but I would like to hear any suggestions of what I might look for. I have a good Ford dealer close by so tend towards that brand but Case-IH and John Deere also have dealerships within a couple hours driving distance for parts (just not sure I can afford the JD's). Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
