The DUMARU virus. Be aware of a virus that is active right now that claims to be an update for Windows sent by Microsoft. It's called the DUMARU virus. It claims to be from "'Microsoft' [email protected]." The attachment is named PATCH.EXE. The subject line says, "Use this patch immediately." The body says, "Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now! There are dangerous virus in the Internet now! More than 500.000 already infected!" If you open the attachment, you are infected. The virus does several things: * Emails itself to addresses found on your machine. * It attempts to steal passwords from your computer. * Your computer can become part of a network of computers on the Internet used for other activities such as sending spam. * Your computer can become vulnerable to a hacker who will use the vulnerability to invade your computer and steal information.
