Check using a analog voltmeter or a digital set for only one digit to the right of the decimal. Dig one probe into the starter post. Not the cable or lug. The other probe into the starter's cast body. Anything less than 10.5V is poor.More than .2V less than battery voltage is cable/connection trouble. Test the battery(s) by poking the probe into the battery post. Test each battery by it's self. If less than 10.7V the battery(s) are weak. Seen several of these 12V parallel systems starting off one battery and the other just along for the ride. Also seen some good clean looking terminals with high resistance too
