Oil Pressure Problem

Have 1951 "G" JD that was overhauled several years ago, but has very few hours on overhaul. The problem I am having is the oil pressure is acting different now. It hold's good pressure at full rpm's and drops to medium at idle. When I start to put it under load at idle the pressure guage will suddenly drop to low, then will jump back up to medium as rpm's increase. I have been told that it's very rare for these pumps to wear out. Would appreciate any info. someone could give me on this
