Hi Y'all, I just bought an 8n.Runs great, until I pushed a stick through the radiator.Thats all fixed.but as I tried to start the tractor to check for leaks, the battery was dead. When I bought the machine. It has a brand new 6 volt battery along with a brand new voltage regulator.I charged the battery back up and now it starts well. Now heres what I found: I removed the cover from the regulator, while the tractor is running,I push the contacts down and it does charge. So this tells me the generator is putting out. But as soon as I let go of the contacts,it stops charging. I tried polarizing the regulator and generator and still nothing. I went through all the wires, getting continuity and they are all hooked up right. The unit had a new wiring harness installed. However the battery was installed with neg. ground. I even tried reversing the battery to pos. ground and still does the same thing. So how do I get the system working and what am I missing here? Thanx Doug
