There seems to be some question as to what was bought/sold. The law (at least in some/most jurisdictions) clearly defines the difference between real property and personal property. You obviously have the real property and the whole "bundle of rights" that go with it; i.e. right to occupy, to use, to lease, to mortage, etc; however, unless he sold or gave you his personal property, it remains his. Simple test which will usually suffice to determine which it is: is it fixed or movable? Central HVAC unit---fixed, real property; window fan/window AC unit---movable, personal property. He's probably guilty of simple trepassing, but he is a neighbor; better to fix a date (by agreement), after which all property which he has not removed is forfeited...
