It is made to work the way it is working-you can wire it as Burlgoat says--but you won't like the constant fan noise on and off and the comfort index up and down. Just tell your wife to go to sleep and let the fan noise drown out all the other outside noises--or else if all else fails make sure she is so tired (handle this the best way you can) that she falls asleep and is not aware of the fan at all.
