I have owned Fords my entire life and I agree with the stay away from the 5.4 in a 3/4 ton. I have not heard about the oil problem but I do know they have been having a lot of problems with blown head gaskets. That and it just isn't enough engine for a Super Duty. Ford didn't gain anything when they dropped their push rod engines (302, 351, 400, 460) for the new Triton V8s (4.6, 5.4 & v10). For a completely reengineered product they gained no real increases in HP or gas mileage.
