I have seen people doing this same thing with Toyota's, Ford Rangers, Chevy S-10s and Dodge Dakotas, While I will not degrade any of these small trucks,I will say that they are not really trucks, and were never intended for towing a load like you are contemplating. I have seen a few situations where these small trucks were overloaded to the point of being dangerous. Naturally the trailer dealers are going to tell you it will be O.K., they want to sell a trailer.
My advice,go out and find yourself at least a 3/4 ton, if possible a heavy duty 3/4 ton, you will not be sorry.
