i have used a 1400 c3 on the farm for years. it was sold surplus from state use. the electrical harness was a mess where someone had tried to "fix" it. i'm sure thats why it was sold. they are large heavy machines. i have had no problems that are not shaired by other backhoes {cylinder rebuilds, chaffed hoses etc.) a set of good manuals cost me around $200. within a week or so, i had the electrical back in pretty good shape. for farm use i like the jcbs but around structures they may be too bulky to fit where the cases and jd will. the jcbs ar built just as well if not better than anything out there.
