The question should be 'who refines the stuff?'. I know years ago, Shell sold lubricants to Sears for their private label. Refineries are like any other factory, from time to time, they will have problems and run a bad batch of product. I would imagine that the older and more antiquidated the refinery, the more problems it's products would have. Just my two cents worth.
