I don't think there is an advantage to any style, it's just a matter of placement. A down draft on most tractors would require it to be sticking out of the hood, same with sidedraft. It's all a matter of application and getting things to fit in a required area. The only advantage I can think of would be in the area of high performance where a sidedraft carb on a 6 cylinder motor would allow the intake runners to be straighter runs expecially if multiple carbs are used. I have a Datsun 240Z with tripple webber two barrel sidedraft carbs, it runs good :) multiple down drafts would work great on a V8 with the right intake, almost as good as fuel injection. Lance
