I have a 384 ihc, had the same problem. information i got, from the same discussion board was the shifter was worn. if your problem is the same as mine you can knock out pivot pin, pull the shifter lever out. in my case the shift lever was worn on the end. causing shifter to slip out & hang in gear. took to a welder had built up on the ends a little, put back on and worked fine. might look at your shifter to see if worn.
