Good automotive paints are designed to work as a system. In other words, your surface preps, primers, color coats and top coats are all designed to interact chemically with each other and are dependent on each other to achieve the best results. Spray paints are probably just going to interfere with or inhibit that system in some way. A better approach would be to coat the parts with some type of easily removed preservative agent until you are ready to paint them.
