I used liquid gas tank liner in a tank in '96 or '97 and it's still working fine. That was in a tank that I bought used to replace one that had rust and I didn't want to use the coating. Ended up using the liquid coating anyway because the replacement tank developed a leak after about 6 months.
I'd get the tank you have cleaned out and coat it, then you know it will fit.
Follow the directions carefully for cleaning it out and adding the coating and you should get a good job.
